A fresh, untweaked, isolated instance of K-M did the same thing as my not so fresh, tweaked, isolated instance of K-M. Your thoughts about 16-bit versus 32-bit was a good lead, I once tested a program that had very different results in each mode. To test K-M I just switched to 16-bit but the results were unfortunately the same. However, your tuchlaube link worked great... at freezing my screen again. Thanks! ;-) That makes three sites I know of that produce the exact same effect.
